Thank You! The ZDay lectures can be viewed free online here
Saturday March 10th, 1:00pm, Friends Meeting House, 173-177 Euston Road, Euston, London, NW1 2BJ
“Zeitgeist Day”, or ZDAY for short, is an annual, global event day which occurs each March. The goal of the global lecture events is to increase public awareness of The Zeitgeist Movement and to educate the public on solutions to many environmental and social global concerns that we face today in our current economic outlook.
The Zeitgeist Movement London presents Z-Day 2012. An 8 hour event at the prestigious Friends Meeting House in the heart of London will host 15 speakers from the movement covering topics such as education, technology, 3D Printing, the social functions and implications of imprisonment, Core Resource Depletion issues, Myths and Realities of the current economic system and activist stories and ideas. An exclusive screening of The Economics of Happiness has also been secured to headline the day’s events, beginning at 1:30pm. The Zeitgeist Movement Technology Team will also be making their first public appearance to discuss the current projects and innovations toward mass-awareness of true global sustainability and the shift of society’s core values. Lectures will take place simultaneously in two rooms and will be broadcast live on the web, as well as archived afterwards. It is a huge and exciting opportunity to come and be informed, and inform others, of the necessary global behavioural and scientific shift required for harmonious global survival.
Featuring an official screening of The Economics of Happiness starting at 1.30pm, directed by Helena Norberg-Hodge, Steven Gorelick & John Page.
THE PROBLEM
Don’t think there’s a problem with the current social model?
Jinan kicks off the day with a volley of examples on prior historical social collapses, coupled with key statistics on how almost everyone on earth is suffering, with the talk “Sustaining the Unsustainable.”
Think it’s all down to “Capitalism?” Think again. Author Dimitar Tchurovsky destroys the myths and reminds us of the real state of affairs with “Modern Society – Myths and Realities.”
“To be normal is to be messed up.” Ben McLeish reviews the origins, realities and consequences of the prison system in ”Out of the Box.” Tom Williams delves into the necessary mindset of what it means to be a leader of a systematically ill system in ”Pathocracy”.
But as Douglas Adams used to say - Don’t Panic. There are ”Reasons to Remain Optimistic” as Leeds Zeitgeist Coordinator Dan Dewsnap explains.
THE SOLUTION
A new Economy, and a new set of global values
Joe Gosling presents ”The Future of Government” - the move from opinion and lobbying corrupt thinking to systems-based rationality and arriving at decisions. Steve Morrison reveals the systems of transition already springing up around the world as it is increasingly “occupied” with ”Transitional Systems”, while Adam Moloney presents some value shift focus points in ”Transitional Thinking.” Cassie Earl, a PhD in pedagogy will reveal the needed changes to our education systems (both actual, and the models of thought) in ”Educating the Global Household.”
THE TRANSITION
Get involved, and how to get involved now
Youtube Superhero Myles Dyer has over 40,000 subscribers - he will take to the stage to share his thoughts on viral online activism. Adam Gilliland gives a view from a street-warrior’s perspective repping for the Zeitgeist Movement out on the streets. And in the first ever live presentation, The Zeitgeist Technology team, and the team behind ZeitNews gives an insight into creating online systems of information and more.
Want to get involved in public speaking? Shivani Verma presents ”What are you going on about?” - a crash course in how to speak publicly. And Liam Swords helps us learn about video editing to spread the message.
IT’S TIME TO REORGANISE THE WORLD ACCORDING TO HUMAN AND ENVIRONMENTAL NEEDS.
About Z-Day
“May You live in Interesting times” is, for a very good reason, known as a Chinese curse, rather than a blessing. Amid an ever growing energy, food, water, economic and environmental crisis that is now global in its frame, coupled with global protests against an outdated, damaged and predatory socio-economic system, we may now say that we live in very interesting times indeed.
And yet amid the rioting, political upheaval and mass social unrest, very few times are we afforded the opportunities to talk about the solutions to the systemic stress humanity is feeling. The solution is the same solution humans have always employed when faced with life’s challenges - applied technology, technical understandings and the scientific method.
And the solution resets the meaning of “economics” from its current pre-suppositions of “growth”, “profit” and prioritisation of private wealth over life-supporting social systems, to its foundational meaning - the running of the global household, efficiently managing and distributing global resources to support all of humanity, a model referred to as a Resource Based Economy.
The Zeitgeist Movement, a sustainability advocacy group with more than 1,100 chapters worldwide, is hosting its annual event day of presentations, lectures and smaller talks, film screenings and more on March 10th 2012. This is Zeitgeist Day, or Z-Day for short.
The subjects discussed and covered will include the role of automated labour and its effects on the job-market, monetary economics vs resource economics, and multiple Q&As and open discussions.
The system isn’t “broken” - it is working perfectly; this is how it functions. It has to be replaced.
This years main event was held in Vancouver and features talks from Peter Joseph, Douglas Mallette, Federico Pistano and many more. Check out the promotional video below and to watch the lectures online for free click here.
