Hello everyone,
I'm Sime from the Brighton & Hove chapter, and at the online UK meeting last week the topic of changing the leaflet design was raised. So over the past week I have been trying to come up with my own design, and here's what I have so far.
Larger previews are available here:

I took out the Venus Project images because I think they may take a deeper understanding of the movement in order to understand their purpose as a suggestion of an efficient city.
I also took a page out of Story of Stuff's book and presented it in a way that was as uncomplicated, welcoming and accessible to as many people as possible. Even replicating the drawing style in my drawings. It may need a bit more colour in places though...
Similarly I chose a font that wasn't too imposing or scary, because I think it reflects the movement a lot more positively - because we are all very nice people!
Any suggestions for improvement are greatly appreciated. And if anyone has a link to a higher resolution 'zeigeist globe' image without the words across, that would be great.
Thank you!
~Sime
Looks great, I had a read through and it seems to be at a good level to get people interested and asking questions. I do think it could contain more about what life would be like for them as an individual living in an RBE, this is the stuff that will "sell" people on it and get them really interested.
Thanks!
I did think about including more about that, but it may already have too much text on it as it is. But I could add '...and actually live their lives free from taxes, monotonous routine, and subjugation', or something like that.
We were discussing this whilst doing our stall and we thought that if we promised too much of a good thing, people may think it was too good to be true and so be put off, or perhaps too planned out for them - as with the TVP buildings etc.

Is anyone an expert sales copyrighter? This kind of person would be useful - capitalism has forced us to learn a lot about what works and what doesn't in sales - we might as well try to put this knowledge to good use! Until then maybe we should just not worry too much about how good or bad it is - if it works a little - great, if it works a lot - better, when we get someone who knows what they're doing we can use their input to make it work even better than ever.
Hrm, or should that be "copy-writer"?
Yeah I think perhaps overanalysing our delivery in what we say too much might make us seem less sincere, I think.

Here's a comment on the text rather than the design. On the back the leaflet says:
It's a difficult idea to get across and not one that most people in a country like Britain with a long tradition of popular participation in decision-making, not so much in politics (where it is a sham) but more in running amateur associations and clubs of all kinds (sports clubs, theatre groups and the like), will find attractive. Perhaps a distinction needs to be drawn between purely technical decisions (eg how to build a bridge) and decisions where a choice is involved (whether to build a bridge and where).
In any event, this particular sentence does not convey what I take to be the intended idea clearly, as most people will consider debating as part of what's involved in "arriving at" a decision and there are plenty of decisions made by governments that are not subject to popular debate.
To be clearer it would have to say something like:
For instance, is there only one way to word or design a leaflet? Can this be arrived at without debate?

Something I have been thinking about, is perhaps it would be good to start a leaflet with a kind of introduction question-air about what people imagine the future will be for their children in this monetary system....something like ....Do you think your children will have a nice job? Do you think your children will be able to buy a nice home? Do you think they will they have a happy life and end it in comfortable retirement ? Do you think they will always have enough money and be happy? What about yourself? if you are under 65 it's highly unlikely even you can you say yes to all these questions? There has to be a better future .. and there is!! ...read on and become one of the many thousands of people who are becoming members of the Zeitgeist movement and supporting a change to a Resource Based Economy.
I know that's not very good but you get the idea. It needs something that makes people 'want' to read the flyer.
Great work Sime!! I love the look, feel and non tech approach. The font is great, just a quick few of my personal opinions. Firstly i would take "it'll never work" off the skeptic's sign, just because these things do work at a subconscious level and even thought the rest of the leaflet is clearly saying this is possible, it may have a negative effect. It could say something like "But how could this work?"
Love the homeless guy's sign "keep your money, i want change" Genius!!

I agree here with amonetariste, but would go further to say that, at this introductory level we shouldn't be telling people important decisions would be made by a computer. Firstly it could scare people off, secondly, we, including Jacque, have no way of knowing if this is what will actually happen, exactly. What we could put is what we do know "with no profit to be made from anything and no cost to restrict us, decisions would be arrived at according to what's possible, practical and most necessary, and always for the good of people not for the good of profit" Or maybe something shorter and sweeter, but you get my point.
In the bit about "this would drastically reduce the amount of waste...." i would put something about "if things were produced in a sustainable way, from the best and most appropriate materials, always with recycling and reuse in mind, instead of profit. It's clear we could produce all the goods, services and infrastructure of modern life for all the worlds people, leaving no-one in need of anything."
Again a shorter reword is necessary, but the reason i say this is that unfortunately people are so deep in the consumerist society that the idea that they would have to give anything up " share", may put them off. And its not necessarily the case. As they investigate more, see Addendum and become more enlightened their values will shift so they can see the sense of access rather than property etc
The bit about "...repetative job that syphons away any time to pursue thier own interests." maybe you could add ",be with family and friends, and simply enjoy life."
Then "We consider as this is avoidable it is unacceptable..." just to reinforce the idea maybe.
Also like your idea's surbitonpete about reminding people to think of the world their children will be left, maybe this could be incorporated?
Great stuff guys.
Okay leaflet design update!
I've been rearranging it since the original post as so here's what it currently looks like now.
I've taken your suggestions or what to reword and so for the decisions part I had:
"Currently, change is slow and disruptive. This transition would enable a society wherein decisions are based on the best scientific information we have available, rather than opinions of politicial parties. "
I think whilst it still isn't clear how exactly that would work, it might serve as a better brief introduction than just 'decisions would be arrived at', as that is overly vague.
I went through it with people who weren't too familiar with the movement so that I could get their impression, and at any point where 'What does that mean?' came up, it was reworded ^^

The left-most section on the 1st page still perhaps might need some work, or at least some kind of background - also (although not shown in the picture) I've put TVP website at the bottom of the get involved options following Gilbert's advice.

Hi! I'm the media coordinator of the italian chapter. You should excuse me for my bad english
We're (our chapter) really interested in printing and delivering your flyer during ZMF's screening at theatres. We consider it really well-done and suitable for an economic (black and white) printing.
I ask you if you could share the source file in order to simplify the translation.
Great job!
