Yeah - this guy:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk_politics/election_2010/8602143.stm?=8657715
made a good suggestion for a starting point.

I think it'd be good to get lots of similar views on monetary reform represented, so my suggestion to anyone thinking of posting a video would be to keep it in the realms of our current reality - anything completely extreme will not be taken seriously.

Some suggestions:

  • Nationwide education about how fiat money really works - for people of all ages.[/*:m]
  • Transparency of where our money ultimately goes.[/*:m]
  • Increased spending on scientific research in relevant fields.[/*:m]
  • Deprivatisation of public services, either making them non-profit or channeling the profits into something external but related and useful.[/*:m]
  • Curb/eliminate exponential growth in a few unsustainable areas (population, inflation, fossil fuel production/usage).[/*:m]
  • Increased public awareness of the corporate nature of our supposedly "public services" (police forces, councils, courts, etc.) - many of which are profit-making companies owned by foreign companies.[/*:m]

Let us know if anyone does a video with a link to it

I see what you are saying but it's a bit defeatist if we did something that is only encouraging an improvement in our 'current' reality..ever since I learnt about the RBE idea, I have lost all interest in the monetary system and our current reality. Anything less than an RBE is simply not enough for the worlds future. It's not even an option in my book.

I see what you're saying and I share much of your personal views, but conditioning (or de-conditioning) and mass awareness can't happen (to everyone) overnight. In addition to the "sudden realisation" factor, we also need to be creating a gradual change/movement in the way people think. After seeing a video with some guy saying we should ban money or phase it out or whatever, most people would dismiss the idea, whereas seeing someone say that the population should be more educated about the way fiat money works might make them go and look it up.

We should also remember that an RBE is completely unproven, while there are a few small societies that demonstrate similar principles and there is some scientific research that shows it could/might work, not much has been done in this area and we need a much more comprehensive design with scientific backup. So in addition to dumping a heavy dose of reality on people, we should also be gently and strongly swaying them. It's a multi-pronged approach, we should keep working at the people who are not ready to change their views yet as well as those who are.

Re: BBC wants your video's!

I guess my problem with what you are saying is the 'time' factor, I really don't think we have the luxury of a lot of time, the monetary and 'profit' system is taking us to our doom, it already is causing the deaths of millions and causing millions of others to live their lives in abject poverty and it is all going to get a hell of a lot worse when the effects of oil passing peak start. People in 'this' country may still think they are well enough off to say they want more evidence ...but our good times are almost over. It's the importance of this that people need to understand. It is the 'only' lifeboat on offer..there isn't another one. It doesn't matter what happens it can't make things worse.

Re: BBC wants your video's!

Well my personal experiences with talking to people about fiat money and how a money-free society might work have shown me that the best way to effect change in their views is by allowing them to think it through themselves. Saying "This is the problem and this is the solution" typically puts up psychological defence barriers and they will then find all sorts of reasons to ignore and NOT think about what you've said. Instead, ask questions like "Have you ever wondered why... " and then follow up with some logical arguments for a number of reasons/causes. This will get them thinking about it and you can hold their hand through the process until they reach their own conclusions. These might be slightly different from yours, which is fine, the important thing is that they have realised something needs to be done.

I think we should get a group together and just bombard them with messages saying something like this 'if you're showing peoples videos, why not show addendum?' lol i dunno its hard to say, i think we're not really ready to hit the mainstream media because theres always the possibility that we can be ridiculed from 100 different points of view, so we have to be careful when it comes to established institutions. I think its difficult enough as it is trying to sort of ignore... / turn our back on the system as well as trying to impliment new ideas, ya know... with the struggle just to support ourselves in life. I would say this is something interesting to bring up at the UK meeting. I'll suggest it to whoevers chairing the meeting and direct as many people as i can to this page. Hope we can do at least something for it

cheers Pete

Hi Liam ..I really don't know how we can get anything on mainstream media, but I think it's so important to try and get something about the RBE idea on there somehow. The Internet simply isn't good enough for what we are trying to do. We haven't even had all the 'members' on the mailing list bother to view the trailer for PJ's latest movie. I think we should bombard channel four because that is one mainstream tv channel that does sometimes show some pretty controversial things.
