"Foods that kill healthy eating" - Video

Michael Klaper, M.D. gives a clear and entertaining talk on how simple things in your diet can entirely f-up your health, pointing out what we all know to be true, but get confused over thanks to the schooling system's approach to nutrition.

Thanks for posting that Andy, that was very interesting, he certainly had a good way of explaining it. Unfortunately you owe me for a freezer full of food I am not wanting to eat any more!

I do still feel a bit mixed up about the idea that we aren't even meant to be meat eaters...I can't imagine that there would have been many vegetables or nuts or whatever for the stone age people to have eaten so it seems to make sense that they must have eaten a lot of meat.

Well you can always put any fatty meat you don't want into a soup or a sandwich for someone sleeping on the street to keep them warm, but you can actually save a lot of money too, by eating mainly beans/mushrooms/grains to get your protein instead of meat, because the extra cost of land and time for feeding domesticated animals goes onto the price of meat; although I still have some free-range eggs myself because I'm such a skinny bugger. I would recommend crushed hemp seeds in any cakes, curries or cereal too, since they provide a very complete set of essential amino acids and oils, whilst having no inebriating effects.

With the stone age / hunter-gatherer era you're forgetting something pretty important; this planet used to be mostly covered by forest and jungle, and around that time the human population didn't exceed a few million, so I'm pretty confident that one could wander through the forest most of the year and pick whatever was in season to eat, while meat would serve as a fatty emergency fuel for during winters and ice ages. 'Gatherer' is the main word there, like in 'blue-green', as people would have been gathering/foraging food most of the year round, and hunting a little bit when times were tough.

My diet is that of a sort of resourceful non-squeamish vegetarian, I buy and eat vegetables out of choice, but if some meat will be going to waste if I don't eat it, then I often will. I figure if it's already been slaughtered, then why let its life become a waste.

Well I had already been cutting down on meat by buying quorn instead of mince, (I make an awful lot of mince dishes) It's trying to cut out the milk, fish cakes and eggs that will be a problem.

I see your point about the stone age men, I suppose we would only have eaten fruits, nuts and berries if they were plentiful. Thinking about it, eating animals or fish would hardly have been my own choice if I was a stone age man who knew nothing about cooking!..I am sure only desperation would ever have made me think of eating a raw animal ...lol.
